Italy trip - Portofino

Hello, everybody,

Today I present you a few tips from lovely Portofino, the second stop on our lovely Italy trip.
Like I mentioned in the previous post, we stayed in Genova and Portofino was a one day trip by train.

I do not recommend to stay in Portofino overnight, because it is extremely pricey.
And a train ride from Genova to Portofino is like 30-45 minutes away.
We left very early in the morning, to make sure we have enough time to visit and enjoy Porto.

There is no train stop directly in Portofino. So, we took the train from Genova to Santa Margherita Ligure and from there you have 2 options: either to walk for like one hour and a half and it involves some climbing up :), or to take a bus which takes you there in like 10 minutes.

Well, we tried to be brave and we started walking :) but after 10 minutes we gave up - not that we don't enjoy walking (we walked like 150 km in total while we stayed in Italy), but the sun was burning up already and it was only 10 o'clock. We realized that we would have got there late, tired and with a heatstroke maybe :)

Santa Margherita is also nice as you can see below:

But nothing beats Portofino :), so do not waste too much time in Santa Margherita and do go up the hill to Portofino.

And for the most amazing views, once you get to Portofino, you have to climb up to Castello Brown.
It is like 15 to 20 minutes walk /climb, but it is amazing once you are on top.
There is a small fee you have to pay and unfortunately they are not open after 18 o'clock. I would have loved to stay up there for sunset, but I couldn't.
Below you have some amazing views from up there.

The first image is actually from the way up there, where a furry
friend wanted to leave a mark in Portofino :)

Where to eat:

I do not recommend to eat by the water, because it is very crowded and it is more expensive.
Try to walk on the streets and find a cozy place which has tasty food, cheaper and you don't have to wait a lot.
We found a place called L' Isolotto and I highly recommend it.
We took some trofie al pesto which was the house specialty - home made pasta and home made pesto sauce.
The pizza was just as good - a simple Margherita one which was simply delicious.
